A veteran motorcycle officer is in the hospital after a crash Saturday afternoon while chasing two suspects on a moped.
The Buffalo Police Department says the police officer attempted to stop a moped for multiple vehicle and traffic violations, including speeding and riding without a helmet.
According to police, the driver of the moped stopped suddenly, hitting the front wheel of the officer's motorcycle, causing him to swerve, lose control and crash.
BPD says the officer was transported to Erie County Medical Center and is being treated for serious but non-life threatening injuries. The two riders on the moped fled the scene.
BPD is investigating the incident.
