Troopers rescue dogs from frozen pond

A New York State Trooper braved the icy waters Tuesday to rescue two dogs from a pond in Clarence.

Troopers responded to a 911 call around 7:45 a.m. for two dogs that had fallen through ice on a pond on Shimerville Road.

Authorities say one trooper tended a safety rope for the other, as he entered entered the ice water in a dry suit to rescue both dogs. The trooper was able to break an area of ice and return one of the dogs to shore.

The trooper then went back in and found the second dog under a layer of ice. He was able to get the second dog to shore.

Unfortunately, authorities say the second dog had succumb due to injuries.

Animal Control and Harris Hill Fire assisted in the rescue.
