A dog is lucky to be alive Monday night after falling into the icy waters of the Erie Canal.
Belle, a 7-year-old Labradoodle, fell into the water behind the Hess Mart in Bushnell’s Basin in Monroe County.
State Police responded to a 911 call for help and a trooper spotted Belle struggling in the water.
Using a ladder borrowed from the owner of the Hess Mart, the trooper used it to crawl out onto the ice and pull Belle to safety.
Belle was taken to an area vet to be warmed up, dried off and checked out.
