In preparation for kids heading back to school, Town of Tonawanda Police are taking extra safety precautions to ensure that all kids stay safe while heading to and from school - especially in high traffic areas.

With the Sheridan Drive bridge being closed to pedestrians, an additional four crossing guards will be stationed at two of the busiest intersections meeting Sheridan Drive - Delaware Road and Colvin.

These guards will remain there year-round on a permanent basis, a new precautionary measure Captain Joseph Carosi says should a major difference as far as safety is concerned.

As for the bridge, no decisions have been made yet as to what the town plans to do with it.
