Tonawanda's Christmas decorations serve multiple purposes

North Tonawanda and the City of Tonawanda are doing their best to mimic the look of a small town in a Hallmark Christmas movie. But the reason isn't just to spread Christmas cheer.

"We want to liven this place up. It starts with one and hopefully snowballs and we will bring retail and fun to Main Street," Colleen Wellsby, a committee member of Tonawanda Main Street, said.

The goal is to bolster local business.

"We have a lot of our merchants that have decorated store windows for the holidays, and that also helps bring the spirit to life a little more," Suzanne Todaro, the secretary of the downtown merchants in North Tonawanda, said.
