A Tonawanda woman is charged with DWI and leaving the scene of an accident on Tuesday after, what police describe as a bizarre series of events that led to her arrest.

Police say 65-year-old Donna Hettinger crashed her car multiple times on Delaware Avenue. According to police, Hettinger first hit a car with her vehicle at Delaware and Joseph Drive and failed to stop. The Tonawanda resident then drove onto the sidewalk around Delaware and Harriet street, where she struck and knocked over four city signs.

Police were able to locate Hettinger at a McDonalds Rrstaurant by following a trail of debris. She was currently in the drive thru, where police say Hettinger was, "confused and disoriented."

Hettinger failed all sobriety tests. At the scene, she told police she took "five or six hydrocodones." She was sent to ECMC, where she was administered a blood test. Hettinger is scheduled to appear in City court on June 14.
