The Tonawanda Town Board and the Ken-Town School Board are trying to figure how and where to build an athletic center that would include an ice rink.

“Obviously it would benefit our students to a great degree. The question is would it fit within our state aid formula,” said Ken-Ton Superintendent Stephen Bovino.

The town board originally had a plan for an $8-million dollar ice rink at the Brighton Pool. If the town teams up with the school board, they may be able to use state aid. Meaning the state could potentially pay upwards of 75% of the bill.

There are still a lot of unknowns with this project, including the price tag.

There are three locations the school and town board are looking, the Brighton Pool, next to Herbert Hoover Middle School, and Lincoln Park.

The superintendent is planning on having a more complete cost analysis at the November school board meeting.
