Tipping big for the kids

Sisters Hospital's neonatal intensive care unit's (NICU) expansion will be getting some help, thanks in part to a rather hefty bar tab.

Doctor Andy Gage was a physician who helped found a fundraiser for the hospital's NICU 24 years ago. His friend and co-founder Keith Morgan continues the event in his memory.

Doctor Andy's Day for Kids was held at The Tavern at Windsor Park in Williamsville. Between donations, a silent auction, and customers buying lunch and dinner, Morgan and company will raise around $25,000 for the hospital's NICU.

Sisters Hospital will see its NICU double in size this spring, expanding by 31 rooms. Lisa Krawczyk, a nurse in the NICU, says the rooms' beds can cost around $25,000 each. She says while expensive, the technology to help save sick and premature newborns is state-of-the-art and vital, so every donation makes a difference.
