The manufacturing process hasn't changed in over a hundred years. The same machines are still in use that got the operation going in 1916. According to Karen Smith, owner of the gift shop and official tour guide this is the "original Kazoo Factory and it's the only one in America."
The Kazoo Factory is owned by SASI, a no-profit agency that provides services to individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities. The employees are part of SASI's Supported Employment Program.
There is a gift shop, museum and factory and it continues to be a popular destination for visitors. Karen says "over the last five years we've had visitors from twenty-nine foreign countries and every single state in the union."
The Original Kazoo Company is opened year round and admission is free. You can get more information at their website.
