If you've ever wanted to see the historic Flight of Five Locks in action, you should head to Lockport this summer.

The popular locks demonstrations will kick off the 2018 season this Saturday, May 26, from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

The Lockport Rotary Club team of Lock Tenders will demonstrate manually opening the wooden Lock gates. New this year, visitors can also hear from "Tommy O'Hara," a costumed reenactor who portrays a Lockport Lock Tender from the late 1890's, early 1900's.

Locks demonstrations are free and open to the public.

You can also participate in the Lock Tender Tribute Tour, a narrated two-hour walking tour that takes you to 11 different stops in and around the Lockport Locks. It also includes a "hands-on" experience where you can help the Lock Tenders open the Locks.

The walking tour begins at the Erie Canal Discovery Center and runs from 10 a.m. to noon.  You do need tickets for it. Admission is $15 per adult and $5 per students. Pre-registration is recommended, and you can sign-up online.
