The countdown to opening day at The Ice at Canalside is officially on with T-24 hours to go.

This family fun winter attraction is bringing back some old favorites like: ice bikes, curling, and public skating, mixing them with some new changes and features to enhance the experience for guests.

Among the new features are: a brand new welcome tent where guests can purchase their admission tickets, rent skates and purchase merchandise in the comfort of a warm space, a new outdoor bar located next to the Winter Lodge, which will feature a new menu this year as well.

Changing the location of some of the activities on the ice has expanded public skate, making it possible for people to enjoy skating more frequently and openly.

Also new this year, skate aids will be available for those new to the ice, as will penguin buddies to help kids strengthen their skills, compliments of Wegmans.

Skate and activities officially begin Friday, December 1st at 1 p.m. Regular hours and winter fun will carry-on from there.

The annual Canalside Tree Lighting will take place sometime between 5 and 6 p.m. at the Christmas Tree, which this year has been moved closer to the ice rink near Main Street.
