The force is strong at this North Tonawanda light saber school

Posted

A North Tonawanda martial arts studio, isn't your normal martial arts studio.
And there’s one reason why.

“The main reason we are here is to use light sabers,” said Kevin Hurst, the head instructor of American Force Academy.

That's right, three nights a week, a handful of sci-fi fans light up their sabers and swing away.

The American Force Academy is WNY's first light saber combat school, added Hurst.

And when he says combat, he means it. The sword wielding participants wear lots of gear, including a fencing mask and lacrosse gloves. And due to the hard swinging fights, this school is not for kids.

A membership costs $100. The equipment can cost a couple hundred more.
