The teen accused of brutally beating a toddler in Marilla was charged with Murder on Thursday.
On March 10, 17-year-old Devon VanDerWege allegedly caused the death of 2-year-old Ethan Bigham due to blunt force trauma while babysitting him, according to the Erie County District Attorney's office.
VanDerWege pleaded not guilty and was remanded to jail without bail. If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of 25 to life in prison.
Erie County Sheriff Tim Howard says the trailer on Hemstreet Road in Marilla is no stranger to conflict. He says CPS visited the home in the past and Ethan was the subject of the investigation.
Sheriff Howard says a total of nine people lived at the home including five adults and four the other children.
