New York's attorney general says an indoor tanning company with locations upstate and in Pennsylvania has agreed to stop making misleading health claims.
The agreement is the latest in a series since Eric Schneiderman's office began an investigation of indoor tanning claims in 2013.
Schneiderman says Wednesday that Total Tan Inc. will no longer describe tanning as a good source of vitamin D and a treatment for a variety of diseases.
He says Total Tan also downplayed the potential dangers, including increased risk for skin cancer. Investigators also found Total Tan didn't provide free eye protection as required.
Schneiderman says the company has agreed to pay $5,000 per day for any "future health misrepresentations" and $500 for each violation of tanning laws.
Total Tan says it "feels vindicated by this resolution," which doesn't include fines or an admission of wrongdoing.
