New details are emerging about baby Maddox, the girl at the center of that AMBER Alert in Syracuse.

Syracuse.com is reporting Maddox was burned in a remote area before the AMBER alert was even issued. The website reports this happened away from Syracuse.

Police say 24-year-old Ryan Lawrence disappeared with his 21-month-old daughter on Saturday. An AMBER alert was issued in response.

Authorities say he left a message saying he could hurt himself and the baby.

Divers found the toddler's body in a Syracuse creek and while the DNA results are pending, police say they are confident it is Maddox Lawrence.

The Syracuse police chief says this is one of the hardest cases he's ever encountered.

"When you're talking about a child, you're talking about a special situation. Although every human being's life has a value, but we're supposed to protect our children. And all of us in law enforcement, that's the way we feel", Chief Frank Fowler said.

Police arrested Ryan Lawrence Monday night. He was arraigned Wednesday on a charge of second degree murder. He pleaded not guilty and is being held without bail in the Onondaga County Jail.
