New York State has determined that swimming at Gallagher Beach at Buffalo Harbor State Park will be permanently off-limits.
The beach has had a history of being closed because of bacteria issues in the water. In fact a study conducted by the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation determined that Gallagher Beach has been closed forty percent of the time because of bacteria.
The state has decided that building and maintaining the beach would cost millions of dollars.
The beach will remain open for sun bathing.
