A Buffalo man now admits he broke into a home and later escaped police custody at ECMC.

Randy Schindler, 29, pleaded guilty in State Supreme Court Wednesday to charges of escape, attempted burglary and criminal mischief.

Schindler caused $250 in damage when he punched through several windows of his girlfriend's home on Dearborn Street in December. He was arrested a short time later and taken to ECMC to be treated for injuries to his hands.

After his handcuffs were removed so that nurses could treat his wounds, Schindler managed to escape through ceiling tiles at the hospital. Officers searched for him for several hours but were not able to locate him. He was finally taken into custody the next morning while trying to exit the medical center

Schindler caused $3,000 in damage at ECMC.

He faces up to five years in prison when he is sentenced on March 9th. As part of his guilty plea, he has agreed to pay for all of the damage he caused.
