The Buffalo Police Department has launched an internal investigation into what led up to an officer using a police SUV to hit a suspect with a knife.
Facebook video, sent to 7 Eyewitness News, shows the police SUV backing up and then accelerating before hitting the man.
According to Buffalo Police spokesman Mike DeGeorge, the incident began inside a home in the area of Chicago and Fulton Streets around 12:30 p.m. Saturday.
At one point, the suspect came outside and began threatening officers with deadly force.
Police say the suspect "aggressively came after officers with the large knife." As the suspect was approaching officers, he was struck.
The suspect was taken to ECMC with non-life threatening injuries and is now in custody.
Police have opened an internal affairs case, which is department policy in any incident where a suspect is injured by an officer.
Buffalo Police SWAT and the Crisis Management Team responded to the scene.
