Sugar houses prepare for New York Maple Weekend

Posted

Maple weekend kicks off this weekend. Maple farms across New York State are inviting visitors to their sugar houses to educate public about the maple syrup process and traditions.

Maple weekend is sponsored by the New York State Maple Producers Association.

The event is four days over two weekends: March 17-18 and 24-25.

7 Eyewitness News visited the Maple Glen Sugar House in Gowanda where co-owner, Paul Lesefske, is preparing for visitors.

He says there will be activities where visitors can learn about maple syrup and taste maple syrup made at his sugar house.

Lesefske says it takes 40-50 gallons of sap to make one gallon of syrup.

The Maple Glen Sugar House has been around for three decades.

He not only makes syrup, but also sugar, cream, (which are certified organic), candy, and more.
