A growing number of parents have decided to take the education of their children into their own hands according a study released Tuesday.
Data gathered by the National Center for Education Statistics shows the number of home schoolers in the U.S. has nearly doubled from 1999 to 2012, the year the national study was completed.
The Federal organization estimates nearly 1.8 million children in the U.S. were home schooled in 2012 with the largest increase of students occurring between 1999 and 2007.
Data shows that a majority of parents deciding to home school their children are white, with education above the high school level.
