Local racial justice groups rallying behind a study that accuses the Buffalo Police Department of unconstitutional and discriminatory practices.
The study, which has been submitted to the State Attorney General
’s office, is a collaboration between the University at Buffalo and Cornell Law Schools, and claims policing in Buffalo under Mayor Byron Brown has disproportionately targeted minorities.
Co-author of the study Anjana Malhotra tells Seven Eyewitness news that the department
’s policies are infringing on citizens’ rights “It took actual techniques that have been held unconstitutional and is implementing them with impunity, top down, in a systematic coordinated program of traffic stops that target predominately only minorities in this city.
In response, Mayor Brown released a statement saying
“The city has not seen the claim, but any allegation of discrimination is completely false.”
