Local racial justice groups rallying behind a study that accuses the Buffalo Police Department of unconstitutional and discriminatory practices.

The study, which has been submitted to the State Attorney General

s office, is a collaboration between the University at Buffalo and Cornell Law Schools, and claims policing in Buffalo under Mayor Byron Brown has disproportionately targeted minorities.

Co-author of the study Anjana Malhotra tells Seven Eyewitness news that the department

s policies are infringing on citizens rights

It took actual techniques that have been held unconstitutional and is implementing them with impunity, top down, in a systematic coordinated program of traffic stops that target predominately only minorities in this city.

In response, Mayor Brown released a statement saying

The city has not seen the claim, but any allegation of discrimination is completely false.
