The University at Buffalo says the alleged assault/attempted sexual abuse claim Monday morning was a false claim.
The student who reported the incident on North Campus has since told investigators that it never happened.
University Police say they were unable to find evidence supporting the student's claim.
"This incident created an atmosphere of concern on campus, and we think it is important for everybody at UB to know that we have determined that the alleged crime never took place," said University Police Chief Gerald Schoenle.
The District Attorney's Office says the student will not face charges.
The incident has been sent to the university's Office of Judicial Affairs and Student Advocacy for review of potential violations to university regulations.
"The University at Buffalo takes the issue of sexual assault on campus very seriously and all sexual misconduct complaints are thoroughly investigated," a press release from UB reads.
