Storage company not responsible for cars, boats destroyed in Lackawanna fire

The storage company destroyed in this week's massive fire at the old Bethlehem Steel plant is not responsible for any of the property wiped out by flames.

According to the contract that Dr. Bob's Storage requires customers to sign, tenants must obtain insurance coverage for all property stored in the rented space along Lakeshore Road.

"Owner does not have any obligation to place or maintain insurance on occupant's property stored in the storage space," the form reads. "The occupant has been apprised that owner is not responsible to place or maintain insurance on occupant's property stored in storage space. Occupant understands and agrees that it is solely occupant's responsibility to maintain its own insurance."

Wednesday's four-alarm fire destroyed the Lackawanna landmark, which stretches across an area the size of six city blocks.
