A New York State Trooper was hurt during a traffic stop Wednesday afternoon.

Police say the trooper, who has not been identified, was hit by a pick up truck driver on Interstate 86 in the Town of Campbell in Steuben County.

The crash happened at 4:38 p.m. Wednesday while Trooper Craig Foglia was sitting in his car after conducting a traffic stop. He was hit from behind by a Ford F-150 driven by Kenneth Aukett of Westmont, New Jersey. Trooper Foglia's car then hit the vehicle he had stopped.

The trooper was flown to Strong Memorial Hospital.  He was in serious condition.

Aukett was taken to Robert Packard Hospital in Sayre, Pennsylvania with non-life threatening injuries.

The accident is still under investigation.
