State troopers are planning a New York-wide crackdown on drinking and driving heading into the week before St. Patrick's Day.

New York State Police Joseph D'Amico announced Thursday that drivers can expect to see sobriety checkpoints, additional DWI patrols and more underage drinking and sales to minors details during the campaign that starts Saturday and runs through St. Patrick's Day on Thursday, March 17.

The crackdown starts on the same day that St. Patrick's Day parades are being held in several upstate cities, including Albany, Syracuse, Rochester and Utica.

During the last year's St. Patrick's Day enforcement effort, troopers made 264 arrests for DWI and issued more than 14,000 tickets.
