A Texas-based company is attempting to scam Clarence-area businesses by soliciting them for money, according to New York State Police.

Police said the company contacted several businesses in the area to donate money for T-shirts and banners for local high school sports and cheerleading teams. The business is called Boost Sports and has been linked to scamming businesses across the country in a similar manner, according to police.

Boost Sports reached out to businesses in WNY, claiming to be gathering donations for T-shirts and banners at Clarence High School, according to police. Clarence School officials told police they have no relationship with the company.

State police are warning local businesses to take caution and check with school officials before donating money.
