State parks Cyber Monday deal rakes in $2M

The New York state parks system's Cyber Monday promotion for three-year park passes brought in more than $2 million.

The Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation says it sold more than 15,000 of the discounted Empire Passports at $130 apiece on Monday and Tuesday. Officials say the sale started on Cyber Monday — the marketing term for the Monday after Thanksgiving — and was extended an additional day because of the overwhelming response to the deal.

The three-year passes are normally sold for $165.

Before the Cyber Monday deal kicked in, the state had sold about 1,700 three-year Empire Passports this year.

Empire Passports provide holders unlimited vehicle access to all state parks, nature centers, recreation areas, boat launch sites, park preserves and dozens of forest preserve sites.
