ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo is taking aim at fellow Democrats in the state Legislature, saying they're dragging their feet on the legalization of marijuana and other priorities as the legislative session winds down.
Cuomo said on public radio Wednesday that with only a few weeks left, Democrats aren't accomplishing as much as he had hoped when they won a Senate majority last fall, giving them control over the full Legislature. He cited legalizing marijuana as well as stronger anti-sexual harassment laws and a bill to regulate paid gestational surrogacy.
Democratic Senate Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins of Yonkers shrugged off the criticism, saying lawmakers are working to reach consensus on several issues, including legalizing pot. She said Cuomo must be "stressed" because of the demands of the end of the session.
