Driver admits to being high on marijuana when he hit and killed a woman waiting for the bus

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — A Long Island man has admitted to being under the influence of marijuana when he struck and killed a woman who was waiting for the bus in October of 2018.

31-year-old Carlos Velez of Greenport, New York has been sentenced to 1 to 3 years in prison for 2018 crash that killed 47-year-old Adrienne Early of Buffalo.

Velez has high on marijuana when he ran a red light, hit another vehicle before traveling onto a sidewalk at the intersection of Genesee Street and Fillmore Avenue, hitting and killing Early at a bus stop.

Velez and the other driver were not hurt in the crash.
