St. Bonaventure University President Sister Margaret Carney is retiring.
The 74-year-old announced Tuesday that she will leave her position at the western New York university on July 31. She's been at the Franciscan college for 20 years and has been president for the last 12.
In an email to the college community, Carney says the university is in the process of completing a new strategic plan that will require new funding, and indicated a capital campaign could be on the horizon.
Board of Trustees Chairman Robert Daugherty says the board will immediately begin drafting succession and transition plans.
While president, Carney oversaw the launch of new academic programs, including in cybersecurity and rehabilitation counseling, and several fundraising campaigns, including the college's 150th anniversary campaign that raised $95 million.
