A proposed 22-acre facility cleared a major hurdle in the Buffalo Common Council Tuesday, getting approved to use a vacated lot for recreation.

The lot includes the old ice house and power house along Elk Street in Buffalo. The plans are being prepared by South Buffalo Development, who should be presenting a full final proposal to the city within the next few weeks.

The facility could become home to a $2 million privately-funded sports complex. The complex would include a 70-yard indoor turf field and a 120-yard outdoor turf field.

Michael Damico, who proposed the facility, envisions a complex where adults can let off some steam on or off the field any day of the week.

The developers hope to break ground on the project before the end of the year.
