Today is the internationally recognized Holocaust Remembrance Day. A day where many are affected by the losses of those trying to liberate or those who fell victim to the tragedy during WWII.

It marks the day that the largest of the concentration camps, Auschwitz was liberated.

On Friday, Congressman Brian Higgins honored Howard Michael Ehrhardt, a Buffalo native for his contributions in helping liberate Dachau, Hitler's first and longest running concentration camp.

His son, Howard Ehrhardt Jr. who served in Vietnam was presented with his father's military service medals, including a bronze star.
