PEARL HARBOR, Hawaii (AP) — A somber remembrance ceremony was held Saturday morning at Pearl Harbor marking the 78th anniversary of the Japanese attack on the Hawaii base that launched the United States into World War II.

About a dozen survivors of the attack attended, including 97-year-old Herb Elfring of Michigan. He said being back at Pearl Harbor reminds him of all who lost their lives.

A moment of silence was held at 7:55 a.m., the time the attack began in 1941.

The silence was broken with an overflight of fighter jets in missing man formation.
