Solar roof production is officially underway at SolarCity's Riverbend site in Buffalo.
Initial solar roof tile manufacturing reportedly began in December at Gigafactory 2. Traditional solar panel production began last summer.
Tesla remains confident it will achieve more than 1 gigawatt of cell and module production, and potentially as much as double that.
Hiring is also ongoing and on track. There are already about 500 employees at Gigafactory 2 in Buffalo.
