Guess who's paying the highest effective property taxes in all of New York State?  The winner is the tiny village of Sloan in Erie County.

According to the latest numbers from the non-profit, Empire Center, Sloan property owners are now paying $64.46 per every $1,000 of home value.  The lowest tax rate is in the Town of Southampton in Suffolk County, with a rate of only $4.70 per $1,000 of home value.

Part of the reason Sloan is paying so much is the low home values there, and Southampton rates appear low because the average price of a home there is a staggering $590.000.
