Sunday afternoon just after 1 p.m. the Town of Evans Dispatch Center began receiving calls reporting people stranded on Lake Erie due to an ice shift.
Six people were stranded by open water 150 yards off the shore from the Sturgeon Point Marina, according to Evans Police. It happened when they were reportedly ice fishing.
Multiple fire companies, with the assistance of AMR Medical Services, responded for a rescue operation. They also requested the help of Erie County Sheriff's Office Air One.
According to authorities, the ECSO Air One made three separate transports, bringing those stranded back to shore.
