A statewide Silver Alert for 79-year-old Helen Beckedorf of Orchard Park was canceled early Thursday morning, after police officers reported she had returned home safely.
Beckedorf was reported missing on Wednesday evening. She had not been seen since 3:45 p.m. at her home on Hodson Road. The Erie County Sheriff's Office reported her phone had been tracked to Avoca, New York. Avoca is approximately 90 miles east of Orchard Park, in Steuben County. The alert was canceled around 2 a.m. Thursday when Beckedorf returned home.
A New York State Missing Vulnerable Adult Alert sent out early Thursday morning said Beckedorf has dementia and may be in need of medical attention. A Silver Alert is issued when a person with Alzheimer's disease, dementia, or another cognitive disorder is reported missing.
