It's a time honored tradition here in Western New York.
Shotgun season for deer and bears got underway at sunrise Saturday morning.
Hunters from across the region got up bright and early, doing their part to control animal populations throughout the state.
Officials are also promoting a program called "let young bucks go, and watch them grow".
The idea is for hunters to voluntarily pass on shooting young deer, to guarantee the future of the herd, and increase their likelihood of seeing older, larger bucks in the future.
