The Erie County Sheriff's Office Marine Unit helped two jet skiers who had fallen into distress Tuesday evening.

The Sheriff's Office says two deputies were dispatched to the Niagara River near Strawberry Island just before 6 p.m.

The deputies found two men, one in the water near the jet ski and the other on Strawberry Island.

The deputies helped the one man out of the water and checked him for hypothermia. The other man waded from the island to the sheriff's boat and both men were taken to the shore.

The owner of the jet ski was issued tickets for not having the necessary distress signaling devices.
