A man is facing several charges after sideswiping a North Tonawanda School District bus while high on marijuana Wednesday. The Niagara County Sheriff’s Office says they received reports around 11:00 a.m. of an accident on Nash Road in the Town of Wheatfield involving a school bus and another vehicle.

Investigators say 36-year-old Donald McGuire, from Ransomville, was driving northbound when he drifted into the southbound lane and swiped a bus with 25 North Tonawanda High School students on board. McGuire continued on and hit a utility pole before coming to a stop in a driveway.

McGuire was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital for treatment. Five students on the bus were also injured. They were taken to DeGraff Hospital for treatment. The remaining 20 students and bus driver were uninjured.

The bus was heading back to North Tonawanda High School from Orleans/Niagara BOCES.

McGuire was charged with Unlawful Possession of Marijuana and several traffic violations. He’s due in court in the Town of Wheatfield court on June 14.
