Buffalo Police Accident Investigators were called to East End Avenue near Genesee Street late Wednesday night.

7 Eyewitness News video from the scene showed investigators looking at a Jeep that had crashed into a guy-wire of a National Grid utility pole.

A Buffalo Fire Department official said crews were called to that location around 9:45 p.m. to attend to a medical emergency call. The driver, a 46-year-old man from Cheektowaga, may have suffered the medical event while driving and then crashed into a fire hydrant and the utility pole.

The victim was rushed to Sisters of Charity Hospital, St. Joseph’s Campus in Cheektowaga by Rural Metro Medical Services, where he was pronounced dead.

A National Grid crew was on scene as a police tow truck removed the vehicle from the guy-wire. Power service to the area was not effected.

Police on scene did not immediately comment on the circumstances surrounding the crash. We have reached out to a Buffalo Police spokesperson for more information.
