Following the tragic Southwest flight and a "60 Minutes" report on Allegiant Airlines, U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer's Office will reveal a report which outlines critical oversight by the Federation Aviation Administration (FAA) on airplane maintenance Sunday.

Schumer will reveal that for years, maintenance necessary to keep airline passengers, the airline industry and the skies safe, has been seriously lacking.

The report states that since 2014 FAA enforcement of airline maintenance and fines collected which are designed to improve safety, have fallen by 70 percent.

Senator Schumer will urge the FAA to be more aggressive and proactive, as he calls for an increase in maintenance checks across all airlines.

The press event will take place at Senator Schumer's New York City Office at 8:00 p.m. Sunday.
