Senator Jacobs unveils social media push for ridesharing in state budget

Posted

New York State Senator Chris Jacobs unveiled a new social media campaign aimed at pressuring state assembly leadership to put ridesharing in the state budget.

Senator Jacobs held a press conference at the Alumni Plaza in front of the KeyBank Center today, urging State Assembly leadership in to take action and allow upstate ridesharing in the state budget. He was joined by representatives of the New Yorkers for Ridesharing Coalition and other stakeholders.

"We're the biggest city without ride-sharing," said Jacobs. "The only NFL city without ride-sharing... it's a real embarrassment, so that's unacceptable in that sense."

The social media campaign touted by Jacobs, #notagain, is a way for people to address the leadership in Albany directly.

Jacobs said ridesharing is a priority within the Senate budget, but not the case for the Assembly budget, which knocks it down in importance in the budget process. If the ridesharing proposal fails to be included in the state budget, Jacobs said it wouldn't be till June to get it in a separate piece of legislation.

The state budget is slotted to take effect April 1.
