Senator Charles Schumer is pushing for the first-ever national firefighter cancer registry.
Schumer made the announcement Wednesday, during a stop at Ladder 13 on Hertel Avenue in Buffalo. The new legislation would help medical professionals track and treat firefighters diagnosed with cancer.
"These men risk their lives for us, if they are going to become ill, we should make sure that we have the ability to at least give them the minimal care they deserve," said Schumer.
The registry would compile data and make it available to researchers working with the CDC.
