Scott Brown, an award winning reporter for WGRZ, passed away Friday after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was 59 years old.

A native of New Jersey, Brown was a graduate of Buffalo State College. He first joined Channel 2 in 1982 and later returned to lead the station's coverage of some of the biggest stories in Buffalo history, including the red-green Erie County budget crisis and the exoneration of Anthony Capozzi.

Brown's reporting earned him three prestigious Edward R. Murrow awards and numerous New York State Emmy awards.

The dedication he showed to the community through his storytelling kept the people of Western New York informed, and elevated the reporting of his colleagues, who strived to be as strong a journalist as Scott.
