The problem of lead in older homes is a serious concern in Western New York.

U.S.Senator Charles Schumer is now introducing legislation that would give a $3,000 tax credit to families, landlords and homeowners to help cover the cost of removing lead hazards.

Schumer is also calling for increased funding for the HUD Lead Hazard Control & Healthy Home grant program. The senator says the program has been cut from $230 million ten years ago to its current $110 million proposed level under President Obama's Fiscal Year 2017 budget.

Both of Senator Schumer's proposals have to be approved by Congress.
