U.S. Senator Charles Schumer would like used-car shoppers to get more information up front about whether a vehicle has been checked for flood damage from last summer's hurricanes or other deluges.
The New York Democrat asked the Federal Trade Commission Sunday to consider adding a "flood check" element to the "Buyers Guide" required on many used cars up for sale.
The FTC hasn't immediately commented. The Buyers Guide already advises getting an independent inspection and a vehicle history report.
