Scans show Jim Kelly is cancer free

Posted

Exactly one week after Jim Kelly delivered an emotional speech at the ESPY Awards, he and his family got the news they've been hoping for - the hall of fame quarterback is cancer free.

"Double thumbs up! MRI and CTScans are clear," his wife Jill posted on Instagram this morning next to a smiling picture of her husband. "Still working through major pain management, but PRAISE THE LORD, no evidence of cancer."

Kelly first underwent surgery in 2013 to remove squamous cell carcinoma in his jaw. The cancer returned the following year. After chemotherapy and radiation treatment, he was declared cancer free in the fall of 2014.

In March of this year, Kelly announced his oral cancer had returned. He later had surgery on his neck and mouth and underwent surgery again last month in New York City.

Kelly received the Jimmy V Award for Perseverance at the 2018 ESPYS in Los Angeles last week.
