Football is entering its home stretch. Playoff matchups soon to take form, returns from Tyrod Taylor and Aaron Rodgers this weekend.
The drama continues to build in the NFL, but now a former league is starting to make some noise.
Various media outlets are abuzz over rumors regarding a possible return of the short-lived XFL. Earlier this year ESPN gave viewers a glimpse into what was the XFL with their 30-for-30 series.
It was a failed venture by WWE owner Vince McMahon, who partnered with then NBC Sports executive, Dick Ebersol. Presented as an alternative, almost "no rules" form of professional football the league only lasted for its inaugural 2001 season.
According to Bleacher Report, Brad Shepard of Nation One News reported McMahon is looking to bring back the XFL and may make an announcement regarding the return on January 25.
Late Friday night Deadspin writer, David Bixenspan shared a tweet with a statement from a WWE spokesperson attached regarding the rumors:
A WWE spokesperson issued the attached statement to me & @Deadspin in response to my inquiry about tonight's rumors of a soon to be announced XFL revival. They declined further comment. Whatever Vince McMahon's "Alpha Entertainment" is, it's self-funded & separate from WWE. pic.twitter.com/oT0Oxyi2fV

And followed up with this note:
Worth noting that the Alpha Entertainment statement came in response to me asking WWE to "confirm or deny" the XFL relaunch rumor.

Neither parties confirmed or denied the idea of McMahon bringing the league back but him funding this new entity is worth a mention. It's currently only speculation, but with this information it could be interesting to think of a league to challenge the NFL.
