A Rochester man who shot and killed his former stepfather in April at a West Seneca sports complex was arraigned on a murder charge on Wednesday.

On April 29, Andre Lewis got into a verbal argument with his mother's ex-husband at a basketball tournament at the Niagara Frontier Sports Complex on Meyer Road in West Seneca. The argument escalated into a physical fight and the victim, 54-year-old Robert Echols, also of Rochester, was pulled to the ground by several people.

Lewis is accused pulling out his licensed pistol and shooting Echols in the chest. Lewis allegedly shot Echols while he was on the ground and again as he tried to get up.

Lewis pleaded not guilty on Wednesday and is being held in jail without bail.

He faces 25 years to life in prison if convicted of the charge.
